FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
What is a dog park?
A dog park is a designated, usually fenced, safe place where well-behaved dogs can legally run off-leash and socialize under the careful supervision of their responsible owners without endangering or annoying people, other dogs, wildlife or property. It is also a place where humans of like interest may meet and socialize.
What is the biggest negative about dog parks?
Studies have shown that the biggest negative to date is overuse. There are so few dog park facilities to meet the current demand that they tend to be so popular they are overused.
What will happen to my property values if a dog park is opened near my home?
Studies have shown that dog parks make property values go up. They are so in demand that real estate developers are now advertising dog parks as an amenity in their new developments. One neighborhood in San Francisco had their property values rise 900% (and that's NOT a type-O) once a dog park was created nearby. Dog parks show citizens that it is a family friendly area.
What about barking?
Dogs running off-leash in dog parks tend to bark less or not at all by comparison to dogs who are confined and "defending" their yard/territory. To a dog, the dog park is considered a neutral place.
What about dog fights?
Again, studies have shown that there is probably less aggression in a well-managed dog park than at many Little League baseball or youth soccer games. Dogs who have been socialized and allowed to run off-leash tend to be less aggressive. Dogs who are off-leash in a "neutral" setting (i.e., dog park) are usually not aggressive. Any dog who shows signs of aggression is leashed and brought under control or removed immediately by their owner. Dogs who continually show aggression will be banned from using the park.
What about the dog waste?
Dog feces is more than just a nuisance, it can pose a serious health hazard to other dogs and to people. Many dogs will be visiting the site so it is imperative that each responsible dog owner pick up after their own dog. This will be accomplished by providing metal scoopers, disposable plastic bag dispensers and garbage cans. Dog parks provide an enclosed area for responsible owners to dispose of their dog's waste properly.

My neighbor's dogs bark most of the night. How would a dog park help that?
Dog parks are the only place a dog can run safely at their full speed. By allowing a dog that, and they can run between 20 up to 48 mph, depending upon the breed, it totally wears them out. They get so excited at the possibility of running free, they completely wear themselves out, so once they are home, all they want to do is sleep. Well exercised, socialized dogs just don't bark. Neglected, unexercised, unsocialized dogs are the ones who usually are barking incessantly and this is annoying to everyone.

ALL we need is for every dog owner to make a
one-time, tax deductible donation of $40.00 per dog.
(That's a sum equal to ONE large bag of dog food.)
What a SMALL price to pay to leave a legacy that will last for generations.
Can ANY dog use the dog park?
ONLY well behaved dogs may use the dog park. Dogs MUST be under voice control and respond to basic commands such as "Come" and "Stay." Dogs under four months of age are NOT allowed because of the possibility of Parvo. Agressive dogs, un-neutered male dogs and ANY dog demonstrating destructive behavior are not allowed in the dog park.
Usually dog parks are self-goverened by the people using the park.
Traditionally, this has worked very well. Most people are very respectful and will take their pets and leave when asked. However, should someone ignore the rules and regulations, anyone may call 911 to have the local police enforce them.
